:previous: Good sleuthing FW. I don't know how you were able to figure that out.
Here's another 'mystery' location. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/128...923/YPkKtV.jpg ebay There's a street sign but it's difficult to read. Here's how it was labeled on ebay. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/800...923/n5yZK7.jpg note the question (?) mark behind "Beverly Hills." In other words, the seller doesn't really know. To me, this doesn't look like Bev. Hills. |

It looks like the middle one has added a port-hole window (and maybe a curved corner) |

Two Norma Talmadge photographs currently on ebay.
"NORMA TALMADGE Vintage 11X14 Photo At Her SANTA MONICA HOME, DINNER FAMILY / FRIENDS" http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/xq90/922/C9Vzwk.jpg http://www.ebay.com/itm/NORMA-TALMAD...oAAOSw4A5YpPVG I spy the three Talmadge sisters....Natalie...Norma...& Constance......and their mother. I believe Mary Pickford's mother and sister are both present. Rudolph Valentino is sitting next to "Mrs. Valentino" (I wonder if it's Jean Acker or Natasha Rambova?) This second one is great but seems familiar (maybe it's been posted before on NLA) Unless I'm mistaken, this is the first time a list of names has been added!! http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/xq90/923/37wnQ5.jpg http://www.ebay.com/itm/NORMA-TALMAD...3D262855010948 It would be fun to look into some of the lesser known names. Although sections were filled in for Sunset, San Vicente and Montana Blvds. and the Brentwood Storm Drain project in 1960 obliterated most of the canyon that ran through the Brentwood Country Club, the canyon is still mostly intact. Had the developers come in the 1920s or later it is possible most of the canyon would have been filled in, but at the turn of the 20th Century the heavy machinery to do so wasn’t readily available and not cheap. Plus, the canyon added a rustic charm that helped put the “park” in Brentwood Park. Although Brentwood Canyon ends just north of Wilshire, it once extended further to roughly Santa Monica Blvd. and Berkeley Street. The dip in Arizona between Centinela Avenue and Franklin Street in Santa Monica, for example, is part of Brentwood Canyon." Congratulations to us.
I am very pleased to be a part of this group. I only have contributed a little but you have given to me SO MUCH. My understanding of LA history has grown exponentially over the last 4 years or so. Thank YOU ALL for YOUR Contributions!!!
To celebrate 1000 pages, I invited any of you to a meeting in DTLA and one person took me up on it. Hoping to come DTLA again soon. Don't have a date but if anyone is interested in a meetup, send me a message. My email should be part of my profile. Quote:

Just wondering, when these mystery locations are identified, like this one or the Santa Monica Beach houses photo, which were determined to be in Hermosa Beach, does anyone go back to the eBay post and offer the seller this information? |

That is a lovely colorful photo. I like looking at all the people sitting in the background, too. Something has caught the attention of those on the left side. Heh..."pretty girls beauty pageant." Makes me wonder if there's other kinds! |
Since I'm posting a few comments today, I also want to say that many of you offer an amusing quip in your posts that often make me laugh or smile, and I thought it worth pointing out that I appreciate it when you guys do that, though I'm guessing if I kept posting that sentiment after each one it would become annoying! FYI!

I have sent many identifications and corrections to USC, and they're very much appreciated. I tried correcting another digital library once (I can't remember which, but it wasn't one of our usual suspects), and got a reply saying they'd pass the information on to the relevant person, but the description still hadn't changed several months later. I've never even thought about correcting eBay sellers. |
