Schmiedefeld (Lichtetal) is a tiny municipality in the district of Saalfeld-Rudolstadt. It's located between Saalfeld to its north, and Sonneberg to its south in the Thüringer Schiefergebirge.
The municipality belongs to the Verwaltungsgemeinschaft (administrative partnership) of Lichtetal am Rennsteig, which also includes the municipalities of Lichte. Piesau, and Reichmannsdorf.
