Visselhövede is a municipality in the district of Rotenburg (Wümme). It is located on the Vissel River at the Lüneburger Heide (Lüneburg Heath) region, and lies at the center of the Bremen-Hamburg-Hanover city triangle. The municipality consists of 14 settlements.
Visselhövede was once an industrial center, but has faced rough economic times. The largest industry is currently the wholesale trade of mineral oil. Also located within the municipality is a Bundeswehrstandort support barracks.
