Osnabrück is a city and independent Kreisfreie Stadt (district-free) municipality located 45 km northeast of Münster near the northern tip of the Teutoburg Forest. Founded by Charlemagne in 780, the city suffered much from World War II, but much has been rebuilt. The city is still home to a large British Army garrison.
