• This building has the only belfry, with carillon of 48 bells, in the Netherlands.

• During the 15th century the city hall was enlarged.

• Destroyed by fire in 1393, the city hall was rebuilt in 1396.

• In 1944, the city hall was completely razed by Allied bombings and artillery fire and was severely damaged by French artillery fire in 1794.
